ANA DAY CENTER

 The Ministry of Education and Research financed 7 didactic positions in Ana Center, thus contributing to the continuance of the specialized educational process. In 2003, Ana Day Center continues to offer, daily in accordance to the structure of the school year, following the boarding school schedule, between 8.30 – 16.00,  to a number of 22 children, services of recovery, education and social integration, through specialized activities like training, speech therapy, kinesi-therapy, psycho-therapy and occupational therapy. Also, 6 other children from other centers or educational institutions benefit from these services.

  

Services offered for the children with handicap, mental disabilities and their families, in Ana Day Center, and the type of activities performed:

 

1. Services of school education

          Inside the Center there are 3 groups, each of an average of 7 children: I-st, II-nd and III-rd form.

          The preschool and school activities aim at realizing individualized projects of education and recovery, on the basis of the evaluations made by all the specialists in the Center. The individual pedagogic project of the child is made by the educator and the pedagogue, together with the co-ordinator of the center and it represents a structured and distinct program, the progresses being in detail registered by the pedagogue on the entire year’s period.

-        Perceptive education and reeducation

-        Development of language and communication

-        Behavior and social skills

-        Sensory and psycho-motor education

-        Comprehension of the environment

-        Elements of general knowledge

-        Individual and group games  and possibilities of expressing

-        Stimulation of children’s autonomy

 

At present, the pedagogic activity takes place in:

      - three classrooms (for activities such as: mathematics, writing, reading, environment knowledge, communication development).

A particular element of the educative activities is the permanent search of better ways and adapted methods in working with the children, to respond to heterogeneous nature of the groups of children. There was also necessary a probing of the rhythm of working with the children, adapted to their real possibilities.

 

2. Services of recovery

The children follow programs of individualized recovery, of 5 types:

-        Kinesi-therapy

-        Speech therapy

-        Ergo-therapy

-        Psycho-therapy

-        Computer stimulation

The frecquency of recovery sessions is of 2 times per week for each therapy.

Other children, that are included in other centers or institutions, also come at Ana Center, for these therapies.

The activities of recovery take place in 4 rooms:

-        The room for kinesi-therapy

-        The room for speech therapy and psycho-therapy

-        The room for ergo-therapy (drawing, painting, modeling, household activities)

-        The room for computer stimulation, the teacher being a volunteer with motor handicap, licensed in Psychology and Sociology.

 

3. Services of supplementary training in the afternoons

This year, a new services was created, of supplementary training, which takes place twice a week, on Tuesdays and on Thursdays, between 16.00 and 17.30, and it consists in performing activities with the children in the center with the purpose of consolidating their skills and abilities.

 

4. Services of integration and social skills

These services aim at the integration of this category of children into society through forming social skills and through creating the necessary conditions to an appropriate environment for their development.

Among children that benefit from these services there is an orphan, handicapped child, coming from the Center of Placement Sfanta Ecaterina, and another child from our center who goes, once a week, to no. 257 Kindergarten.

 

5. Services of transportation

The access to Ana Day Center has been made easier for the children since we bought a mini-bus in 2002. The excursions that we organize with the children, the trips and every outing are also possible, as we have this means of transport.

 

6. Services of parents counseling

These activities focus on both family sustenance and counseling, on problems related to having a child with disabilities (meetings with the social worker, the psychologist and the coordinator of the center) and the collaboration between the families and the specialists, with a view to realizing the programs of education and recovery of the children. More than that, the families meetings, group sessions in the presence of the psychologists, have positive results for their psyche.

This type of services is given a major importance considering the fact that the families having children with disabilities are somehow isolated, and that they have to face:

-        The lack of information about the handicap, disability and the possibilities of recovery and education;

-        Integration into the every-day social life

 

5. Services of material support for the families

With the occasion of special events, like Christmas and Easter, occasional donations, the families get material support, consisting in nutritive supplements, clothes etc. and this is a real support considering their expenses and needs.

 

8. Services of recreation during week-ends

Outings have been done every month, at week-ends, in one or two days excursions. The outings are public and, quite often, the parents also participate.

In the center there were also entertaining activities (puppet design, carnival, costumations, name-days celebration, household activities).
